Where does the Tradition to Give a Sprig of Lily of the Valley on May 1st Come from?
It seems that the tradition of giving Lily of the Valley flowers on May 1st originates from the 16th century. In this time, king Charles IX of France offered those flowers and plants to his friends as a flower supposed to bring luck to those who got one.
However, one had to wait till the 20th century before the tradition become as popular as it is nowadays and people sell the flowers in our streets and on the roads.
The Lily of the Valley flower is generally associated with roses and it is common to give few Lily sprigs along with one red rose. Obviously, some also give a Lily plant in a lovely pot that allow their recipient to keep the plant and grow it in their garden.
There are indeed possibilities to give splendid Lily of the Valley flower gift baskets.
